About Passive Buildings Canada

Welcome!
Here at Passive Buildings Canada we are passionate about Passive House (PH) and low carbon, energy efficient buildings. We are a non-profit organizations that aims to grow the low-energy-building movement and build a more sustainable, healthy Canada and planet. Our vision is that all Canadian buildings will be durable, energy efficient and comfortable through the use of Passive House principles. Sound good? You can support the work (and get some great perks)
by becoming a member today.

What do we do?
Passive Buildings Canada shares Passive House knowledge and experience to assist Canadians in reducing building energy consumption and carbon emissions. We value open, honest, and respectful discourses informed by rigorous, practical building science and seek to connect with other organizations to strengthen the low-energy building movement. We are a volunteer organization by PH enthusiasts for PH enthusiasts.

What’s a Passive House?
If you have 90 seconds, Hans-Jörn Eich does a great job of explaining PH:

How do we support Passive House?
* Our growing Gallery of low-energy building projects across Canada is an educational resource for anyone wanting to learn how buildings can help reduce greenhouse gases and promote safe and comfortable living. The gallery also acts to connect potential clients looking to build/renovate with designers and builders who are designing and building more sustainably. Members use their profile to post the great work they are doing and connect with the PH professionals that were part of the integrated design process.
For our standards on posting buildings please see here.

* We have members across Canada so we bring educational presentations across borders
through our webinar series “Haus Talks”. Sometimes we even broadcast talks live, but we always post the videos on our website. We also feature videos from our members.

* We promote low-energy building practices, news, and events through our
online calendar, our newsletter, and through social media (please follow us Facebook and Twitter) As members you can post local events directly to your profile and let others in your area know about the events you are passionate about.

* We connect with like-minded groups allowing us to bring direct benefits to our members, such as discounts on courses and trade shows.

* We support committees by members for members: focussing on current issues and concerns, e.g. changes in Building Codes.

* Our internal member email (listserv) helps to share the knowledge across this country getting you to the people and the products that are available nationally.

Members, we need you! Please
contact us to post a project to the Gallery, suggest a Haus Talk topic, help us connect to another group or create/join a committee.
